Medan is an interesting multi-ethnic city, the native citizens of Medan are the ethnic of Malay and Batak. Then the rest are the Javanese, Chinese, and India who came as the outsider and stayed there. Medan was first a village founded by Guru Patimpus at around 1590, people named it The Village of Medan Putri or The Village of Medan-Deli. Medan officialy became the capital city of North Sumatera province at around 1915.Now, Medan has become a metropolitan city. The Centre Business District of this city is located at Balai Kota Street. There are many attractive old building with the touch of the Dutch that surround the CBD, like the Post Office, the London-Indonesia company, the Tjong A Fie mansion, the Titi Gantung (a place where people could bought second-hand book and mags), and the famous Tirta Tower (the icon of Medan). Other fascinating sites are Kampung Keling with the Hindunese temple and Brigjend Katamso Street with its Maimoon Palace.
There is one unique thing about Medan, if you notices, you can perceive that there are a lot of beca, toyoko(bemo), and sudako(angkot) operating through the city-streets. Those means of transpotation are ubiquitous in almost all of the road in Medan. Those are the things that make Medan lively and busy all day long.
Medan is a beautiful picturesque city, especially at night, with its colourful light. It’s also a great place for a shopping-spree to wander around and until late night you can still see people strolling around seeking for supper and entertainment.
It was dawned on me that Medan is moving forward to become the greatest city in Indonesia. With its potential human and natural resources, Medan will grow bigger and bigger.
